Rococo Releases Java/Bluetooth Developer Kit for Linux

Rococo Software, an innovator of Bluetooth software development tools and infrastructure software, today releases the latest version of Impronto Developer Kit. Using Rococo's Linux-based Developer Kit (DK), software developers can easily design Java/Bluetooth applications for a variety of wireless devices. Rococo offers today's product release free for non-commercial Bluetooth projects.
"By making a fully-functional version of Rococo's Linux development environment free to students and hobby programmers more developers will build compelling Bluetooth applications, which will help to boost the adoption of Bluetooth in the mass market," said Sean O'Sullivan, CEO at Rococo Software. Rococo's Impronto DK for Linux uses standard Java application program interfaces (APIs) for Bluetooth wireless technology. Today's release increases Bluetooth functionality, includes support for IrDA and adds more configurability to the Linux DK.
The number of Bluetooth applications on the market has grown significantly since the wireless technology was introduced in 1998. Apple has adopted Bluetooth in all of its PowerBooks and Dell, IBM and Toshiba are putting Bluetooth in their laptops. All of the major mobile phone vendors are embedding Bluetooth in phones, including Sony Ericsson, Nokia and Motorola. With such a surge in the uptake, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) would like to see more applications on the market taking advantage of Bluetooth's popularity.
"Many innovative applications have hit the market lately, but we still hope to see more new and useful Bluetooth applications for portable devices.
